Invisible Hands provides free, volunteer-driven delivery of groceries, medicine, and other essentials to the elderly, disabled, immunocompromised, and otherwise homebound.  Founded in March 2020 as an emergency response to the COVID pandemic, Invisible Hands is a nonprofit with over 10,000 volunteers in the New York Metropolitan area. In addition to serving recipients who are able to pay for their deliveries, we partner with food pantries, mutual aid, and community organizations throughout New York City to help them meet the needs of food-insecure New Yorkers.

Position

The Director of Volunteer Engagement will join the Invisible Hands team as we begin to expand and bolster our services in the wake of the pandemic. This dynamic position will lead volunteer management and communication on behalf of the organization as well as work closely with the COO and Director of Partnerships to build lasting relationships with schools, companies and other organizations with the goal of strengthening this volunteer-powered organization.

This role is built for individuals who are creative, well organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about community-building in the Invisible Hands Deliver volunteer base and in the communities we serve. The Director of Volunteer Engagement will work closely with the Operations team to manage volunteer recruitment, spearhead new initiatives and events, as well as continually and effectively communicate important information to the wider Invisible Hands Deliver audience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead outreach efforts to expand volunteer base, including presentations and introductory meetings as well as fostering past and future partnerships with various outside organizations

  • Weekly newsletters, periodic text campaigns, and other correspondence with IH volunteers

  • Assist Operations by creating trainings, planning events, and supporting other IH initiatives

  • Continually assess and improve volunteer recruitment and engagement in multiple outlets

  • Provide administrative support to Operations and Engineering, including website updates, collecting and communicating volunteer feedback, and other volunteer-related tasks

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • New York or New Jersey residency is preferred (but not required)

  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills

  • Ability to communicate with many internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis

  • Creativity, imagination, and follow-through for new events and initiatives

  • Experience with (or ability to learn) platforms such as MailChimp, SquareSpace, and Canva

  • Experience with volunteer platforms such as Volunteer Match, NYC Service, NY Cares, etc.

  • Ability to use Google Suite including Gmail, Docs, Forms, and Sheets

  • Ability to learn and use various online platforms and systems

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, regularly-changing work environment

  • A passionate, positive, and people-oriented work style

 

Terms of Employment

Terms of Employment: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Compensation: $52,000 per year

Location: Remote (NYC preferred but not required)

Annual $4,000 healthcare reimbursement

Annual winter break (all staff off) 12/24 to 1/1

Annual cost-of-living adjustment (pay increase)

15 paid vacation days each year

12 paid holidays each year

1 paid day off for birthday each year

10 weeks paid parental leave

Up to 5 days bereavement leave

Unpaid leave (by request) up to 1 month

Unpaid medical leave up to 2 months
